Forward & Reverse Schulte — Two-Round Challenge

Round one: click 1, 2, 3… to clear the grid. Round two: right back down, N to 1, on the same board. The forward+reverse challenge trains the mental gear-shift most single-task drills never touch.

How it works

Going up is a habit; coming back down is work. In round two the board is identical but the rule flips — your brain must suppress the ascending groove it just carved and search in reverse. That suppression is executive function in action.

Your total time covers both rounds. A big slowdown between rounds is normal at first; watching the gap shrink over days is one of the clearest signs of improving cognitive flexibility.

Frequently asked questions

How does the forward & reverse mode work?

First clear the grid in ascending order (1 to N). Without resetting the board, the mode flips: now click the same numbers back down (N to 1). The timer runs through both rounds — total time is your score.

What does it train?

Task switching and inhibitory control: after building an ascending search rhythm, you must suppress it and run the reverse rule on the same visual field. It’s a compact executive-function workout.
