Trail Making Test Printable — Free Part A & B Cards
Unlimited fresh trail making cards in the classic 25-circle paper format: one Part A sheet (numbers 1–25) and one Part B sheet (numbers 1–13 alternating with letters A–L) per pair, newly randomized every time. Print straight from your browser — unlike static PDF downloads, no two sheets are ever the same.
Draw a line from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 … in order, as fast as you can without lifting the pencil.
Draw a line alternating numbers and letters: 1 → A → 2 → B …, as fast as you can without lifting the pencil.
How to use the printed cards
The rules are the original ones. Part A: draw a line connecting the numbers in order — 1 to 2, 2 to 3 — without lifting the pencil, as fast as you can. Part B: alternate between the two sequences — 1 to A, A to 2, 2 to B. Have a partner time you with a phone stopwatch and count the errors; write both in the corner blanks.
Print a fresh sheet each session: the generator never repeats, so memorizing circle positions is impossible. For reference values to compare against (adult averages near 29 seconds for Part A and 75 seconds for Part B, each with its source), see the trail making test standard scores page; to practice the interactive version, the online trail making test plays Part A, Part B and a drifting Dynamic mode.
One practical note: these sheets are black-and-white friendly — the test is the sequence, not color — so any printer works, and there is nothing to enable in the print dialog.
Frequently asked questions
How do I run the paper trail making test?
Hand over the Part A sheet and a pencil. On “go”, the person draws a line from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and so on without lifting the pencil, as fast as possible. Time the sheet with a stopwatch and count errors. Then repeat with Part B, alternating 1-A-2-B. Write time and errors in the corner blanks and compare sheets week by week.
What is a normal time on the printed cards?
These cards use the classic 25-circle format, so published paper norms apply directly: adult averages sit near 29 seconds for Part A and 75 seconds for Part B, with most people finishing within 90 seconds and 3 minutes respectively (sources on the standard scores page). Times rise with age — your own trend matters more than any single sheet.
Are these printable trail making cards really free?
Yes — unlimited generation and printing, no sign-up, no watermark, no download gate. Every sheet is randomized in your browser, so you can print a different Part A + Part B pair for each person or each day of the week.
